How long does it take to build a site?

The length of time required to build a site depends on many factors, including the availability of importable media by the client, the size of the site, the amount of scripting that may be involved, and other factors. Why do I need a website?

If the site is a personal site, only you can answer that question. What equipment is required for a website?

You don't have to own any equipment at all to set up a website. What is required is a domain name, and a web host to host your files.

What is a domain name?

A domain name is your address on the Internet. Our domain name is www.webtemplateszone.com. The domain name is obtained from a registrar. It will cost you about $15 per year. Not all registrars offer all the same additional services, and not all are easy to deal with when you need to change something. The lowest price is often not the best deal. You may wish to consult with us before obtaining a registrar.

What is a web host?

Hosting companies provide the computer and the software to 'answer the door' when someone requests your domain name from their browser over the Internet. It then serves them the pages of your website. Your website actually resides on the web host's computer. It is unimportant where your hosting service is physically located. Unless you have your own corporate computers connected to the Internet 24 hours a day, web server software on them and someone to monitor the server you will need to rent space on the machines of a hosting service for this function. Hosting services may cost from $0 to over $50 per month, depending on what services you require and what is important to you.. It is important to select a hosting service that provides features and services tailored to the needs of your site. Free hosting services are often unpredictable, and require banner ads or popup windows to appear while a visitor is browsing your site. If you plan on having a dynamic site, you will want to make sure your host supports the type of scripting used in your website (ASP scripted sites usually run on Windows servers, PHP sites usually run on Unix-based servers). What is "content"?

Content is the body of your site. The areas that hold the information portions of your site are referred to as the content areas. This FAQ is the FAQ content area of this page.

What about graphics?

We pay special attention to the size of the graphics before we put them on your site. A lot of time and preparation goes into the process. Images can add life and color to your Web site, but they can also make your site ugly and hard to use. If a graphic provides helpful information, such as a map to your store or a picture of your products, then go ahead and include it on your site. Avoid elaborate background images or photos that simply take up space. What is SSL?

What is DNS?

Short for Domain Name System (or Service or Server), an Internet service that translates domain names into IP addresses. Because domain names are alphabetic, they're easier to remember. The Internet however, is really based on IP addresses. Every time you use a domain name, therefore, a DNS service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to 198.105.232.4. The DNS system is, in fact, its own network. If one DNS server doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it asks another one, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned.
